Our History

IMG_4623_edited.jpg

The Davis family dates back at least 6 generations in Vermont and has been active in banking and real estate development.  Over the years, Davises have been supporters of local businesses, social service advocates, and patrons of the arts.

Chuck went to school in Burlington and graduated from the University of Vermont as a physical education major. Although Chuck has spent most of his career in the financial services world outside of Vermont, it is Vermont he comes home to. Marna’s roots were not in Vermont, but having spent the past fifty years in Vermont, she has come to see it as ‘home’ as well.

The Charles A. and Marna Davis Foundation began with Chuck and Marna Davis as Trustees and was created with the assistance of Goldman Sachs in 1987. In 2022, its name was changed to the Chuck & Marna Davis Foundation. Their son Tyler joined as a trustee in 2024. While not a wealthy state, the level of volunteerism in Vermont is amongst the highest in the country.  The ability to give financially does not match those levels.  Because of this disparity, in 2020, Chuck and Marna made the decision to shift the foundation's focus to become more Vermont-centric

Chuck and Marna hope to make a difference to many in Vermont through their foundation. There are other causes outside of the state which the Davises often deem important to give to. The main one being the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation. (FCF). Founded in 2009 by their son, Tucker, who died in 2010 at age 28 of fibrolamellar. At the time of Tucker’s illness, there was very little research into fibrolamellar- a rare, usually fatal cancer. Since its inception, the foundation has raised over $20 million with grants to over 24 research institutions both here and abroad. FCF is presently the largest private provider of funds for fibrolamellar research. These funds come from the Chuck and Marna Foundation and from the Davises personal net worth.
